Installation
-
Copy all files from the delivered Floppy Disk / ZIP-Archive / CD-ROM to
a directory on your harddisk. Any further installation is not necessary.
It is also possible to run the application directly from a Floppy Disk.
-
Choose an available COM-Port on your PC, and make sure that no other application
is using it. Connect the chosen COM Port with you Encoder using a Null
Modem Cable.
-
Start 'ArcosII.exe'.
COM Port Settings
Chose the menu option 'COM Port...' from the 'Configuration'
menu. The following dialog will appear:
 |
You can configure the parameter of your serial port ( on
the PC ) in the 'COM Settings' dialog. Choose an available COM port
from the 'Port' Combobox. The following parameter should work for
almost all cases:
-

-
Handshake none
-
Data Bits 8
-

Checking The Serial Connection
To The Encoder
Choose the option 'Check Connection...' from the 'Tools'

The 'Check Connection' function tries to connect to the Encoder.
It probes for various port speeds and determines the configured 'Port

automatically.
Possible messages are:
-
Can't Open COM Port! Please Check Your Settings.
-
The chosen COM port ( on your PC ) is not available. Check if any other
application is using it. If necessary, choose another port ( see also COM
Port Settings ).
-
Can't determine Coder Port Speed. Please Check
the Connection. - The Encoder is not responding. Possibly the
cable is not connected to the Encoder or the wiring of the cable in not
correct ( no Null Modem Cable ).
-
Coder Sends no ACK Frame. Port Speed is '9600'
Baud. - The connection to the Encoder is OK. But the Encoder
doesn't send an ACK frame. To ensure a correct data flow it is advisable
to enable the ACK frame in the Encoder ( see also Port
Mode and Port Mode Settings
).
