Port
Mode
Using the UECP protocol, the ports of the C04
are supporting three different modes:
-
Unidirectional - The
Encoder will receive data only. The Encoder will not send any data.
-
Bidirectional Requested Response
- The Encoder only responds to a request of the software.
-
Bidirectional Spontanous Response
- The Encoder will send an ACK / NACK after each transmitted UECP frame.
Using the 'Unidirectional' and 'Bidirectional
Requested Response' mode the user trusts the serial communication.
There is no validation of the transmission. Only the 'Bidirectional
Spontanous Response' ensures that the data transmission is correct.
The C04 will send an ACK frame for each correctly transmitted UECP
frame. Otherwise an error message will be displayed. The acknowledge frame
will be analysed and displayed by ArcosII. To prevent resp. recognise
transmission errors we suggest to set the port mode to 'Bidirectional
Spontanous Response'.
Setting
The Port Mode
Choose the 'Coder Ports' property page.

Select 'Bidir. requested response' in the 'Mode' Combobox
and click on the 'Set All' Button. Now the data should be sent to
the Encoder. To do so, check the 'Mode' Checkbox and press the 'Send'
Button. Since the port mode might have changed now, you should check
the connection to the Encoder again. ArcosII will determine
the connection parameter automatically through this procedure.
